Janet Schulz

New Bedford, MA

I have specialized in architectural renderings of residences and commercial structures that are already completed or still in the design phase, and translating architectural plans into watercolor paintings for the past 20 years. My inspiration comes from the feeling or mood of the setting, rather than just the object itself. I have gained a widespread reputation for my watercolor house portraits, having painted the homes of people across the U.S. and in France, England and Switzerland. I have also been commissioned by historic and preservation societies to paint architectural scenes to be offered as originals or reproduced as limited edition prints. I am originally from New Jersey, where I completed my bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts Education. I worked in the commercial art field for many years as a graphic designer, using various mediums in creating my paintings, including pen and ink, oil, acrylics and watercolor. In addition, I studied portrait painting in oils under Marion Hale Nelson and subsequently received commissions to paint portraits of adults and children. I have had examples of my work appear in national magazines and have created the illustrations for two published children's books. Most recently, my watercolors were featured in Ferenc Mate's The World's Best Sailboats II.
