Carla M. Zwahlen

Carla M. Zwahlen
Mont Vernon, NH

Painting from the landscapes of her life, Zwahlen's artistic journey began in her childhood, where she had to choose between her love for the piano and the paintbrush. Ultimately, she decided to pursue both passions, leading her to study with renowned piano pedagogues and graduate from the Boston Art Institute. After realizing that a life on the classical concert stage was not for her, Zwahlen turned her focus to fine art.

A sabbatical spent skiing in Waterville Valley proved to be a fateful decision for Zwahlen, as she met her Swiss husband, Werner. Their love affair led to 33 years of living in the White Mountains ski country, where Werner served as her constant art encourager and companion on their outdoor adventures. However, tragedy struck when cancer took Werner, leaving Zwahlen to navigate through the grief with her art as a source of healing.

Using her pencils, pastels, and canvas, Zwahlen found solace in capturing the beauty of her surroundings and channeling her emotions into her artwork. Her paintings can be found in private and corporate collections across the United States, France, and Switzerland, with several pieces dedicated to her late husband displayed at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Currently residing in Mont Vernon, N.H., Zwahlen continues to create in her studio and shares her love for music by teaching piano to her grandchildren.

For those looking to add a touch of beauty and emotion to their homes or offices, Zwahlen's prints offer a unique opportunity to bring the landscapes of her life into your space. Whether you're a collector or simply appreciate the power of art to heal and inspire, consider purchasing one of Zwahlen's paintings to brighten up your surroundings.
