Kristie H. Cross

KrisCross Art
Staunton, VA

Born in late February during a swirl of snowstorm, the artist entered the world at King’s Daughters Hospital in Staunton, Virginia. As a child, they were known for carrying a crayon in one hand and a fly-swatter in the other, spending their days coloring, concocting mixtures of dirt and flowers, swatting bugs, and befriending feral cats. Despite a tumultuous academic journey, they eventually obtained a bachelor’s degree in Classics/Latin from UVA at the age of 38, leading them to a series of boring office jobs before finding fulfillment in the real estate industry.

In the midst of redecorating their guest room during the pandemic, the artist discovered a newfound passion for art through YouTube tutorials and art supplies reminiscent of their childhood. This sparked an obsession with art and mark-making, as well as a continuous pursuit of the elusive flow-state. Their heart had previously been poured out in written form on a blog on Medium, where they shared personal memoirs and poems that captivated readers.

Currently residing in a magical house surrounded by towering oak trees, the artist spends most of their time in a cozy studio where they create their art. They have a particular fondness for working with charcoal on plain drawing paper, finding solace in the messy yet expressive medium. Despite living in Staunton, Virginia, they dream of relocating to Calgary one day to embrace a new chapter filled with woolen layers, ice-skating, and perhaps befriending another cat named John Singer Sargent.

For those seeking unique and expressive prints to adorn their homes or offices, the artist's collection offers a glimpse into their creative world. Each piece tells a story and invites viewers to connect with the soulful essence of their work. Consider adding a touch of whimsy and creativity to your space with prints from this talented artist.
