Printing Smaller than 8×8 inches

We get a lot of people asking us about ordering prints smaller than 8×8 inches. Of course you can do that on standard Kodak stock but the smallest we offer on canvas and art papers is 8×8 inches. We will tell people that if they want something printed smaller they will still need to order an 8×8 inch print but they can include embedded margins around their image to fill us the extra space. Of course they will just have to trim the excess paper around their image.

As an example, let's say you want to print a 5×7. Basically a 5×7 image is centered in an 8×8 inch area.  The response from many people is "how do I do that?". We put together a nifty little video tutorial on how to do this using the program Photoshop Elements. If you are are intimidated by the use of the regular Photoshop, Photoshop Elements is a powerful alternative to your full blown version of Photoshop.  It does not have all the features the CS versions have but it still does a lot.  At the end of this post and below the video I will put a link to the trial version of the software. It is fully functional and let's you use it for free up to 30 days.

If you are fortunate to have access to the full blown version of Photoshop used by professionals, the process is almost the same so you should be able to still use this tutorial as a reference. Below is the video. You may want to expand it so you can see it in more detail.

On a related note, check the following post I did a while back on Selecting Borders or Adding Your Own Margins.

To download the trial version go to the Adobe Photoshop Elements Trial Version Download Page.
