Ian J. Newbury

Ian has been drawing since childhood, but it wasn't until the late 1980s that he delved into the world of watercolor. Inspired by his travels through Europe, the fast-moving landscapes outside train windows sparked a desire to capture those fleeting moments on paper. During a stop in Florence, Italy, Ian found himself in a supply store, drawn to the most basic materials he could afford on his modest budget of $30 a day. The simple act of sketching with watercolors had a profound effect on his perception, slowing down his thoughts and allowing him to truly absorb his surroundings.

After holding his first show at a gallery in Stonington, CT, Ian's artistic journey has continued to unfold organically. Through trial and error, he honed his style by studying the works of painters he admired, evolving over the past 25 years.
