Gary J. Maxwell Photographs
Aliquippa, PA

After graduating from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in 1973, the artist delved into the world of black and white photography, drawing inspiration from renowned photographers such as Edward and Brett Weston, Imogen Cunningham, and Henri Cartier-Bresson. The artistry of Aaron Siskind and Ralph Gibson also left a lasting impression on their work, shaping their creative vision for years to come.

Despite initially resisting the shift to digital photography, the artist eventually embraced the medium in the mid-90s when they received a Pentax digital 35mm camera. Since then, they have primarily used various model iPhones to capture stunning images, with a particular focus on flowers. The resulting photographs often take on an abstract quality, emphasizing colors and shapes as the artist views most of their work through a lens of abstraction.

While refraining from using Photoshop or Aperture, the artist employs a selection of free or inexpensive apps like Pixler, Camera Bag, and Glaze to enhance their photos. The majority of their editing is done through the Apple Photos application, with a back-and-forth approach between computer and iPhone apps for each image. With over 50 years of experience behind the camera, the artist remains committed to evolving their techniques and exploring new avenues for their photography.

As they continue to refine their craft, the artist invites viewers to appreciate their work and consider bringing a piece of it into their homes or offices. Each print offers a unique glimpse into the artist's creative journey, making for a captivating addition to any space. Embrace the beauty of photography and support the artist by purchasing their prints for your personal enjoyment.
