Barbara M. Gilhooly

Barbara Gilhooly
FORT COLLINS, CO

Barbara Gilhooly approaches her art with a multi-disciplinary mindset, exploring various mediums while staying true to her roots in line and drawing. Recently, her focus has been on charcoal drawings inspired by the flora and fauna of Colorado, where she lives and works. Gilhooly's abstract work often features circular shapes, symbolizing the blend of organic and geometric forms and the harmony between the industrial and natural worlds.

In her painted pieces, Gilhooly begins by layering colors and patterns before incorporating ink drawings or carving into the surface to reveal textures underneath. This process results in a visually rich and dynamic history displayed on the surface. With a background in printmaking and sculpture, Gilhooly earned her MFA from Colorado State University and her BFA from the University of North Dakota. She initially established her studio practice in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she gained recognition for her paintings, wire sculptures, and other art objects before relocating to Colorado in 2010.

For those looking to enhance their home or office decor with unique and thought-provoking pieces, Barbara Gilhooly's prints are a perfect choice. Embrace the blend of nature and industry, organic and geometric forms, by incorporating her artwork into your space. Explore the depth and richness of Gilhooly's creations, each piece telling a story of layers and textures waiting to be discovered.
