For
gloss canvas prints we recommend the a protective
finish called Bulldog Ultra. This is a solvent borne vinyl
elastomer clear coat. While the inks themselves are already
UV resistant inks, the coating also has some additional
UV buffers . Most importantly is the fact when applied
to the
print, the finish can further protect it from scratching,
finger prints, or smudging.
How it is Applied - The finish should
be sprayed on or rolled with a dense foam roller on the
printed surface as a single coat. Typically the finish
will dry within a half hour. This process does require
some
practice
and
when applied incorrectly can leave streaks or roller marks.
Since it has to be applied in a very well ventilated place,
sometimes
hi
levels
of
humidity
in the
air can slow down the drying process. If you plan on painting
over your print, the Bulldog Ultra should give the canvas
the needed protection.
Note: This finish can be very toxic and should be applied
in a well ventilated place. Fumes from the finish can linger
on the print for up to 72 hours.
Other Coatings
We have tested several coating solutions meant to help
preserve the prints and also to prepare them if you wish
to add embellishments such as paint daubs or brush stroke
textures. Keep in mind that any sort of coating, if applied
too thickly may give a matte canvas a semi-gloss or satin
shine. When applying either of these finishes, we recommend
that you apply light coats spaced over a period of time
so that the finish does not drip on the print. Please read
the instructions on the back of the cans of finish for
proper spraying technique.

Tips when applying
finish yourself
Place print on a art easel or hang so that the
print is facing you and perpendicular to the floor.
Room should be well ventilated and low in humidity.
Use a very soft clean and dry paint brush to remove
any dust or lint that might have collected.
Add a light coat of the appropriate finish, holding
approximately 12” away from the printed surface.
Keep coating light enough so that the finish does
not run (also see the instructions on the back of
the can).
Allow the finish to dry (drying times vary so
see the instructions on the back of the can).
Repeat the previous tip at least once or twice.
More so if you plan on adding embellishments.
