Web Site of Ken Rowe
Welcome to the Ken Rowe Images photography site on Finerworks.com! These photos are giclees printed on stretched glossy canvas, which gives them a look similar to a painting. Some are digitally manipulated in post production to emphasize the "painterly" aspect. Some are manipulated "in camera" - such as zoomed shots. Many are "straight" shots, with little if any post production tweaking. I try to specify this in the descriptions of each image. I plan to post many more for you to enjoy and, perhaps, acquire All of my images on Finerworks. com are shown as giclees on stretched canvas, although they may be ordered on other media, including acid-free archival papers, and in varying sizes. Occasionally, I print these and other images on archival, museum-grade paper and sell them at local art shows. Because the latter are personally signed and numbered, they are usually more expensive than those offered on Finerworks. Images rendered on canvas and paper have quite different visual impacts, particularly since the paper prints are archivally mounted and matted and framed under U/V-resistant glass. The images on canvas can be viewed directly and may be framed or unframed. Neither is superior to the other. It really boils down to your personal preferences. My current images are higher resolution, while some of my earlier images are relatively low in resolution. Print labs may advise that the lower resolution images are not suitable for printing at larger sizes, but I personally like the way these some of these images print, despite pixillation effects (or perhaps because of them). I have printed similar images on canvases up to 36 x 24 inches with (to me) very pleasing results. The look is painterly and dynamic, in my mind, although some might say they look blown-out or over-pixillated. I happen to like it. Your mileage may vary. The key thing is that I always try to note on the image listing if it is lower-resolution, high resolution solarized, posterized or otherwise significantly processed. Lower-resolution examples can be seen in the Peggy's Cove series in the Maritime Group/Marine Category. A high-resolution example might be Nashville Neon, a zoomed night shot in my Abstract Group/Category. In some cases, I have specified smaller canvases for images with lower resolution, which makes them look sharper but less "painterly." I have in some cases created collages, which results in a multiple image with good resolution and large dimensions. The core of my work that eventually will be offered here involves photographs of maritime, workboat, waterfront, floral, animal, insect, architectural and "artsy" subjects. I hope you will enjoy much of it, and that you will return to visit now and then to check out what's new.
